Happy Memorial Day Weekend
This Memorial Day weekend, we are honored to remember and celebrate the individuals who have served and continue to serve our country. We hope all of our Gateway families are doing well and are excited for warm weather and quality time outdoors as we approach the start of Summer!
Here are some fun, sensory-friendly events and activities your family can do this weekend:
1. Check out sensory-friendly activities in your area by browsing the Autism Alliance of Michigan Navigator: http://navigator.autismallianceofmichigan.org/events/category/autism-friendly-community-event/
2. Participate in some great events, especially for older kids with special needs in the Metro-Detroit area this month and in June. Don’t miss the list from Metro Parent Magazine: https://www.metroparent.com/daily/parenting/special-needs-resources/special-needs-events-for-kids-in-southeast-michigan/
Events like these can be a great experience for your entire family and are accommodating to children and adolescents on the autism spectrum.
3. Make a cool home-made craft like a fireworks bottle! This sensory toy can be assembled easily, looks beautiful and is the perfect DIY project for Memorial Day! Check out the instructions here at TheAutismSite blog: https://blog.theautismsite.com/patriotic-sensory-bottle/
We hope everyone has a safe and happy weekend with their loved ones!
